Data Center

Integrated design and high-performance solutions are the basis for the construction of safe, efficient and state-of-the-art Data Center. Extensive experience in the sector, combined with an innate vocation for innovation, make Moretti Modular Contractor the ideal partner for the construction of Data Center – shell and core – private or public, both colocation and hyperscale, with a crucial focus on environmental and management sustainability.

Moretti Modular Contractor is among the first operators active in the Data Center construction sector.

Moretti’s prefabricated building systems respond in the best possible way to the main characteristics required for the construction of Data Center: speed, safety and efficiency.

The experience gained also allows Moretti to respond effectively to the constant updating of logistical and plant engineering requirements of digital companies.

The off-site production, managed directly by Moretti at its own facilities, and the digitisation of the construction process, by means of dedicated software and BIM technology, make it possible to minimise construction times and guarantee full control over the quality of the building and maintenance costs, in the medium and long term. Moretti Modular Contractor’s constant drive for innovation fully satisfies the Data Center sector’s focus on environmental sustainability, especially regarding decarbonisation, the use of green energy and reduced consumption.

We are a partner of IDA

Backed by many years of experience in the sector, Moretti has been an active part of the Data Center ecosystem since March 2024, the date on which the partnership with IDA (Italian Datacenter Association) was made official. Created from the partnership between Microsoft, Equinix, Rai Way, Data4, STACK Infrastructure, Digital Realty, Vantage Data Center and CBRE Data Centers, the Association brings together the main manufacturers and operators in the sector in Italy. Its main purpose is to act as spokesperson at a public and institutional level for the needs and demands of its member companies, promoting the development and distribution of Data Centers throughout the country. Such infrastructures today play a decisive role in the affirmation of the Italian digital economy on an international scale. IDA works to simplify the processes of realisation and management of the facilities, organises moments of confrontation between public bodies and players in the sector, and actively collaborates with educational and academic institutions for the training of highly qualified personnel.

A Data Center is a building with a strategic importance recognised by Italian regulations and must meet excellent safety, performance and sustainability characteristics defined according to very strict standards.

The structure of a Data Center must be designed and built to withstand very heavy loads.
Thousands of servers together with the complex system of electrical and cooling systems define a very high weight that requires a high capacity on the part of the structure to support this load.

Obviously, in addition to resistance to seismic risk, resilience to possible natural disasters must also be considered.
The criticality of the plant engineering component requires maximum performance of the structure and envelope.

To guarantee the optimisation of construction time and costs, as well as maximum precision in long-term maintenance, the use of an integrated design within an industrialised construction approach is essential.

In this regard, data centers prove to be an excellent driver for the optimisation of two fundamental processes:
- Digitisation, i.e. the adoption of supports, such as dedicated software and BIM technology, capable of streamlining construction and then maintenance processes.
- The off-site production, i.e. the realisation of the greatest number of components in the factory, leaving only the assembly on site, which allows to achieve a high quality of the manufactured product, with certain and minimised times and costs, and the drastic reduction of vehicular and acoustic pollution of the construction site.

As far as materials are concerned, prefabricated concrete systems composed of pillars, beams, tiles and panels, produced entirely by Moretti in its own factories, are today the best solution for the needs of Data Center, also for the purpose of favouring every possible scalability.

Building a Data Center that is not only efficient, but also environmentally and socially sustainable, requires the evaluation of multiple aspects, which can be summarised in the ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) criteria.
Sustainability is a real prerequisite for any design choice in the case of data centers.

In the construction phase, the use of industrialised construction, which in Moretti's case means off-site production of components entirely within its own factories, considerably alleviates the environmental impact of the construction site, in terms of air and noise pollution.
Sustainability also means social and governance sustainability.

Data Center, in fact, are an important driver for territorial regeneration, in particular for the conversion of brownfields and the improvement of existing infrastructures, resulting in better services for the local community.

Moretti's prefabricated concrete building systems guarantee high fire resistance, flexibility in structural composition, high load-bearing capacity and static performance with minimal dead weight, as well as excellent integration with plant engineering requirements.
All this results in excellent performance in terms of fire resistance, load-bearing capacity and earthquake safety. Thanks to the digitisation of design and construction processes, it is also possible to guarantee real-time monitoring of all components, which makes it possible to carry out maintenance work as quickly and accurately as possible.
Given the strategic importance of the Data Center, Moretti pays the utmost attention to privacy at every stage of the project, guaranteeing absolute confidentiality of any sensitive data.

The benefits

360° support

Moretti’s highly qualified, multidisciplinary team is able to manage the complexity of the entire, construction process, from project conception to turnkey delivery, guaranteeing perfect integration of every aspect: environmental, administrative, construction, plant engineering, management.

Digitisation

The digitisation of the design and construction processes, through the adoption of dedicated software and BIM technology, enables the monitoring of each phase, makes the processes more streamlined and precise, with consequent reduction of time and costs, and optimises integration with the plant engineering components.

Off-site

Off-site production of most of the components ensures high levels of precision, quality design output and a reduction in lead times and therefore costs.
It also minimises unforeseen site hazards and risks and reduces the environmental impact due to vehicle handling.

In-site production

The production of all structural and envelope components, beams, columns, roof tiles and panels, takes place at Moretti’s facilities. This leads to a reduction in the number of people involved and allows for maximum global control over the process, guaranteeing state-of-the-art, certified products with punctual and analytical quality checks on the finished product.
